Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna defence public sector undertaking, has secured a major contract worth ₹1,251 crore from the Ministry of Defence for the supply of Ground Based Mobile Electronic Intelligence System (GBMES) to the Indian Army.
The order, excluding taxes, marks a significant addition to BEL’s defence portfolio and reinforces its position in indigenous military technology development.
The GBMES is an advanced, fully indigenous electronic intelligence system designed and developed by the Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL), Hyderabad, and manufactured by BEL. The system is engineered to provide comprehensive electronic warfare capabilities, including detection, classification, and location of various radar signals.
The networked intelligence system is also capable of intercepting and analysing communication signals, thereby significantly improving situational awareness on the battlefield. Such capabilities are critical for strengthening India’s air defence preparedness and operational intelligence.
BEL stated that the deployment of GBMES will enhance the Indian Army’s ability to monitor adversary activities and respond effectively to electronic threats in real time. The system’s mobility ensures rapid deployment across varied terrains, making it a strategic asset for modern warfare scenarios.
This order further consolidates BEL’s growing order book in the defence electronics segment, driven by increasing focus on indigenisation under the government’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative.
