  • ₹10,560 crore funding finalised with MAHAGENCO for Koradi Thermal Expansion in Nagpur
  • Combined funding exceeds ₹16,000 crore for thermal power projects in Haryana and Maharashtra
  • Projects to enhance electricity supply for households, industries, and agriculture

Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) has entered into two major loan agreements collectively valued at more than ₹16,000 crore to support thermal power projects in Haryana and Maharashtra.

In Panchkula, IRFC signed a ₹5,929 crore term loan agreement with Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) to finance the 800 MW (third unit) supercritical thermal project at the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant (DCRTPP) in Yamunanagar. The project is expected to strengthen Haryana’s electricity supply for households, industries, and agriculture while enhancing the state’s generation capacity through modern, efficient technology.

On the same day in New Delhi, IRFC finalised a separate agreement with Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MAHAGENCO) to provide up to ₹10,560 crore for the 2×660 MW supercritical expansion at the Koradi Thermal Power Station (TPS) in Nagpur. The expansion project, which will replace older and less efficient units, is aimed at improving power availability for industrial and agricultural consumers across Maharashtra.

Both HPGCL and MAHAGENCO maintain strong operational linkages with Indian Railways, primarily through the transportation of coal, which contributes significantly to freight revenues. The electricity generated also supports Indian Railways’ energy requirements across northern and western India.

Commenting on the agreements, IRFC Chairman and Managing Director Manoj Kumar Dubey said the corporation’s priority is to finance projects of national importance that are closely integrated with Indian Railways. He added that the funding support will not only enable capacity addition in Haryana and Maharashtra but also reinforce linkages that strengthen railway infrastructure and contribute to nation building.
