Key Highlights

  • Ola Electric becomes India’s first OEM to get government certification for its ferrite motor
  • Certification granted by Global Automotive Research Centre, Tamil Nadu
  • Ferrite motor matches performance of rare-earth magnet motors
  • Eliminates rare-earth dependence and lowers production cost
  • Integration to begin across Ola Electric’s product lineup

Ola Electric has become India’s first automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to receive government certification for its in-house developed ferrite motor. The innovation marks a major milestone in India’s EV industry by removing reliance on rare-earth materials used in conventional motors.

The certification was issued by the Global Automotive Research Centre (GARC), Tamil Nadu, after rigorous performance and power testing under AIS 041 standards, as notified by the Ministry of Road Transport, Government of India.

Ola Electric’s ferrite motor delivers efficiency and power equivalent to rare-earth permanent magnet motors, particularly in its 7kW and 11kW variants. The motor was first introduced during the company’s Sankalp 2025 event in August.

By eliminating the use of rare-earth materials, Ola Electric aims to strengthen supply chain stability, reduce costs, and support sustainable EV manufacturing in India. The company will now integrate the ferrite motor across its entire product range to enhance performance and affordability for Indian consumers.
