Nxtra – A Subsidiary of Bharti Airtel to Acquire 140,208 MWh of Renewable Energy for its Data Centers

Gurugram, India : Nxtra by Bharti Airtel, a prominent data center company in India, disclosed a power-wheeling agreement with Ampln and Amplus Energy to secure an additional 140,208 MWh of renewable energy. This initiative further strengthens Nxtra’s existing pledge to annually reduce its carbon footprint through renewable energy sources by approximately 99,547 metric tons of CO2 equivalent.

The details of the agreement :

  • Tamil Nadu: A power plant generating 24.3 MW from wind and 28 MWdc from solar, resulting in 109,798 MWh of energy production annually, leading to an estimated annual reduction of approximately 77,957 metric tons of CO2 equivalent.
  • Uttar Pradesh: Collaboration with AmpIn Energy Transition for a solar power plant with a capacity of 12 MWdc, producing 17,880 MWh of energy annually, contributing to an estimated annual carbon reduction of about 12,694 metric tons of CO2 equivalent.
  • Odisha: A solar power plant established in partnership with AmpIn Energy Transition, generating 8 MWdc and producing 12,530 MWh of energy annually, leading to an estimated annual carbon reduction of approximately 8,896 metric tons of CO2 equivalent.

Nxtra by Airtel boasts the largest network of data centers in India, comprising 12 large and 120 edge data centers spread across the country. In the upcoming years, it plans to invest over Rs 5000 crores to construct six new hyperscale data centers in major metropolitan cities in India. This expansion initiative aims to double its capacity to over 400 MW.
