Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (RCF) and GAIL (India) Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly establish a gas-based urea fertilizer project in Maharashtra.
The proposed project will be implemented through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) jointly formed by RCF and GAIL. The initiative is aimed at setting up a new gas-based fertilizer manufacturing facility in the state.
The proposed urea production plant will have a planned capacity of 1.27 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA). It is proposed to be located in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, along GAIL’s Mumbai–Nagpur–Jharsuguda Natural Gas Pipeline (MNJPL), providing access to natural gas infrastructure required for fertilizer production.
The companies stated that the MoU was signed on July 29, 2026. The regulatory filing did not disclose the project’s investment value, implementation timeline, equity structure of the SPV, or other commercial terms.
