Ola Electric Mobility Limited has received government certification for its electric motorcycle, the Roadster X+, marking a major milestone in India’s electric two-wheeler segment. The certification has been granted under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), 1989, enabling the company to begin deliveries of the Roadster X+ equipped with its indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery technology.

The approval has been issued by International Centre for Automotive Technology, a government-authorised testing agency, following comprehensive vehicle-level evaluations. With this clearance, the Roadster X+ becomes the first electric motorcycle in India to be certified with a completely in-house developed 4680-format battery pack.

The Roadster X+ (9.1 kWh) offers a claimed range of up to 500 km, positioning it among the longest-range electric motorcycles currently certified in the country. The extended range is aimed at addressing range anxiety and enabling electric motorcycling beyond metropolitan regions, including Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets where long-distance travel and limited charging infrastructure remain key challenges.

According to the company, the certification reinforces its vertically integrated approach, spanning cell development, battery packs, and vehicle platforms. The 4680 Bharat Cell technology is now deployed across Ola Electric’s scooter and motorcycle portfolio and is also planned to support future vehicle platforms.

The certification process included stringent safety, electrical, performance, and environmental tests as mandated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. These assessments covered parameters such as braking performance, electromagnetic compatibility, range validation, gradeability, noise, and overall functional safety.

In addition to vehicle-level approval, the 9.1 kWh battery pack built using the 4680 Bharat Cells has also received certification from Automotive Research Association of India under AIS-156 Amendment 4. The battery pack successfully cleared critical safety and durability tests, including thermal runaway, fire safety, water immersion, vibration, and mechanical shock assessments.

With deliveries set to begin following certification, the Roadster X+ strengthens Ola Electric’s presence in the electric motorcycle segment and aligns with its broader strategy to scale indigenous EV technology and manufacturing capabilities in India.
