Shyam Metal and Energy Limited has announced the commencement of commercial production at its aluminium foil manufacturing facility in Sambalpur, Odisha. The company informed the stock exchanges that commercial operations began on July 16, 2026, through its step-down subsidiary, SMEL Steel Structural Pvt. Ltd.
The newly commissioned facility manufactures premium-grade aluminium foil with a thickness range of 6 to 40 microns. The plant has an installed production capacity of 18,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) and is part of the company’s broader aluminium downstream expansion strategy.
Shyam Metal stated that it is investing around ₹800 crore in aggregate for its aluminium downstream facilities at Sambalpur. The investment includes the operational aluminium foil plant as well as the upcoming Aluminium Flat Rolled Products (FRP) facility.
According to the company, the aluminium foil project is expected to support product diversification by catering to domestic demand for high-quality packaging and industrial foils, helping reduce import dependence. It also expects the project and the upcoming FRP facility to improve operating margins by around 40% to 50%, drive revenue growth, and expand the segment’s contribution to overall topline by approximately 2 to 2.5 times.
The company added that the project is also expected to generate localized employment and contribute to the growth of the downstream aluminium ecosystem in Odisha.
Shyam Metal further said its Aluminium Flat Rolled Products (FRP) facility, with an installed capacity of 60,000 TPA and a thickness range of 0.3 mm to 4.0 mm, is in the final stages of readiness at the same site. The company expects the FRP plant to commence commercial production by the end of September 2026.
