Tata Power’s solar manufacturing subsidiary TP Solar Limited recorded strong production during the second quarter of FY27, manufacturing 1 GW of solar modules and 0.9 GW of solar cells between July and September 2026. The company said the performance reflects capacity ramp-up and improvements in operational efficiency at its integrated manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu.
During the first half of FY27, covering April to September 2026, TP Solar produced a total of 2 GW of solar modules and 1.8 GW of solar cells. The company operates a 4.3 GW single-location solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli.
The manufacturing facility produces modules and cells that comply with Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) norms and are included in the Government of India’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM).
TP Solar Expands Integrated Solar Manufacturing
TP Solar is the solar manufacturing arm of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power. The Tirunelveli facility is designed to support manufacturing across the solar value chain and increase domestic production capacity.
Tata Power, through TPREL, has invested nearly ₹4,300 crore in establishing the facility. The investment is aimed at expanding domestic solar manufacturing capabilities and supporting greater localisation across the solar value chain.
The facility has a workforce comprising nearly 80% women, according to the company. The workforce composition forms part of Tata Power’s focus on increasing women’s participation in its manufacturing operations.
TOPCon and DCR Solar Manufacturing
TP Solar’s manufacturing facility is equipped with technologies including Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) and Monocrystalline Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell (Mono PERC).
The plant manufactures ALMM-certified modules and DCR-compliant modules using cells produced at the same facility. It also incorporates artificial intelligence and machine-learning systems along with Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) to support manufacturing and material movement.
The company said these systems are intended to improve operational efficiency and manufacturing processes.
Focus on Domestic Solar Manufacturing
The production performance comes as India continues to expand its domestic solar manufacturing capacity. TP Solar’s integrated facility allows the company to manufacture both solar cells and modules at a single location.
The company said the facility supports Tata Power’s broader focus on local manufacturing and the development of domestic capabilities across the renewable energy value chain.
