Titagarh Naval Systems Limited (TNSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Titagarh Rail Systems Limited, has launched the fourth Diving Support Craft (DSC) A23 (Yard 328) for the Indian Navy, marking another milestone in India’s indigenous defence manufacturing efforts.

The vessel is part of an ongoing contract for five Diving Support Crafts being constructed under the Government of India’s Make in India initiative. The launch ceremony took place at the company’s shipyard along the Hooghly River in Kolkata, with senior naval officials and company representatives in attendance.

Designed as advanced catamaran-type vessels, the Diving Support Crafts are equipped with modern, indigenously developed systems. These vessels are intended to support the Indian Navy’s Command Clearance Diving Teams in complex underwater operations, including inspection, repair, maintenance, and salvage activities in both harbour and near-shore environments.

According to the company, the launch reflects steady progress in strengthening indigenous capabilities in defence manufacturing and shipbuilding. The DSCs are expected to significantly enhance operational readiness and underwater mission capabilities of the Indian Navy.

The vessel is also designed to serve as a training platform for naval diving personnel, contributing to capability development and preparedness.

Titagarh Naval Systems Limited continues to expand its shipbuilding footprint as part of the strategic restructuring of Titagarh Rail Systems Limited. The company is focusing on maritime growth while leveraging its engineering strengths to deliver specialised vessels for defence and commercial applications.

The company’s shipyard facility in Falta, West Bengal, is being developed into a modern, state-of-the-art yard spread across approximately 50 acres. It is equipped to handle both domestic and international shipbuilding requirements and is aligned with Industry 4.0 standards.

With a legacy of delivering over 35 vessels across sectors including defence and research, the company has demonstrated capability in building vessels up to 180 meters in length. Titagarh Naval Systems currently holds an approximate order book of ₹500 crore, including taxes, reflecting growing demand and expansion in India’s maritime sector.

The company stated that it is also exploring strategic collaborations and partnerships to scale operations and enhance capabilities in line with government-led maritime initiatives.
