Power Mech Projects Limited (PMPL), an engineering and construction services provider in the power and infrastructure sectors, has secured a major Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contract for the Mumbai Monorail. The contract has been awarded by Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) and is valued at Rs. 296 crore, excluding GST.

The contract covers a 19.54 km monorail corridor connecting Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk to Chembur in Mumbai. It includes the operation and maintenance of 17 stations over a period of five years. The Mumbai Monorail, operational since 2014, remains India’s only straddle-type monorail system.

Under the agreement, PMPL will be responsible for comprehensive O&M services. This includes managing advanced rolling stock systems and maintaining the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system, which is critical for efficient and safe train operations.

Commenting on the development, Chairman and Managing Director Sajja Kishore Babu stated that the contract represents a strategic milestone for the company. He noted that the project marks PMPL’s entry into the urban mobility sector and strengthens its position in India’s growing infrastructure landscape.

The company highlighted that the project aligns with its long-term strategy of diversifying beyond traditional power plant O&M services. By leveraging its technical expertise and execution capabilities, PMPL aims to deliver reliable and efficient services while maintaining high safety standards for passengers.

Power Mech also emphasized its commitment to ensuring seamless operations, improving passenger experience, and supporting MMMOCL in enhancing service reliability. The company expects the project to contribute to better connectivity with metro, suburban rail, and other transport systems, potentially increasing commuter adoption over time.
