Sigma Advanced Systems Ltd. has secured an export order worth USD 104.9 million (approximately ₹1,013 crore) from a North American customer for the manufacture and supply of 147,000 units of 155mm extended-range base bleed artillery shell bodies. The company said the order is expected to be executed over the next six to 12 months.
The export contract marks one of the company’s significant international defence manufacturing orders and supports its growing presence in the global artillery ammunition supply chain. According to Sigma Advanced Systems, the contract is expected to contribute to future revenue and EBITDA margins.
The company stated that it has expanded its research and development capabilities and is manufacturing advanced base bleed artillery shell bodies that integrate aerodynamics, energetics, propulsion-related technologies and systems engineering. These developments follow previously secured contracts for conventional 155mm fuzes and M107 artillery shell bodies as the company moves further into higher-value defence manufacturing.
The order covers precision-engineered projectile casings designed for integration into extended-range artillery ammunition systems. Unlike conventional artillery shells, base bleed projectiles incorporate a gas-generating unit at the rear, reducing aerodynamic drag during flight and increasing effective firing range while remaining compatible with existing 155mm artillery platforms.
Strategic significance
Sigma Advanced Systems said increasing global investment in artillery modernisation and ammunition stockpiling has strengthened demand for extended-range ammunition technologies. The company believes the latest export order further enhances its position within the international defence manufacturing ecosystem and supports its expansion into overseas markets.
The company added that the contract is expected to be margin accretive and contribute to overall profitability while strengthening its credentials as an export-focused supplier serving global defence customers.
Commenting on the development, Sunil Kalidindi, CEO and Executive Director of Sigma Advanced Systems, said the order reflects the confidence of international customers in the company’s manufacturing capabilities, execution standards and ability to scale complex defence programmes.
