GAIL (India) Limited and VERBIO India Private Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the establishment of Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants in India using agricultural residues. The agreement was signed by GAIL’s Executive Director, Shri Sumit Kishore, and VERBIO’s Managing Director, Shri Ashish Kumar, in the presence of GAIL’s C&MD, Shri Sandeep Kumar Gupta, and VERBIO’s CEO, Shri Claus Sauter.
This collaboration aims to leverage both companies’ strengths to promote sustainable energy solutions and enhance the utilization of agricultural waste. The parties will identify suitable locations for greenfield CBG plants and conduct feasibility studies. Depending on the outcomes, they will seek investment approval for forming a Joint Venture. GAIL may also explore acquiring equity in VERBIO’s existing CBG plant in Punjab.
Shri Gupta emphasized that this partnership marks a significant step toward advancing clean energy in India, benefiting both energy security and local farmers. Shri Sauter added that the collaboration supports farmers and the rural economy while aiming to replicate successful projects across India, contributing to reduced greenhouse gas emissions and a positive environmental impact.
