Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) to form a consortium for participating in a tender issued by the Shipping Corporation of India.
The MoU was executed on February 9, 2026, and enables both public sector shipyards to jointly submit a bid in accordance with the tender terms and conditions. The collaboration is aimed at undertaking a large-scale and strategically significant national shipbuilding programme.
According to the company, the proposed partnership will focus on the construction of advanced maritime platforms. The initiative is expected to strengthen India’s maritime infrastructure while supporting long-term operational and strategic requirements.
The agreement was signed by senior officials of both GRSE and HSL, highlighting a strategic alignment between the two defence shipyards. The collaboration is expected to leverage the complementary strengths, infrastructure, and technical expertise of both organisations to improve execution efficiency for complex shipbuilding projects.
GRSE stated that the partnership supports the national objective of enhancing indigenous shipbuilding capability and technological self-reliance. The MoU is positioned as a step towards advancing the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision in the defence and maritime manufacturing sectors.
