Rhetan TMT Limited has secured Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for its premium high-strength Thermo Mechanically Treated (TMT) steel bars in the Fe500D, Fe550 and Fe550D grades. The certification enables the company to manufacture these grades and supply them for government and public sector infrastructure projects across India.
The company disclosed the development in an exchange filing on July 27, describing the certification as a significant milestone in its growth strategy and product portfolio expansion.
According to the company, the newly certified grades are designed for high-strength and high-ductility applications and are commonly specified for highways, bridges, dams, metro rail projects and other large-scale public infrastructure developments.
BIS Certification Opens Access to Infrastructure Projects
Rhetan TMT said the BIS approval allows it to participate in government and PSU tenders that require certified Fe500D and Fe550D TMT bars. The company noted that the certification expands its addressable market by enabling entry into infrastructure segments that were previously beyond its reach.
The company added that the certification also broadens its product portfolio, allowing it to offer a wider range of TMT bars for applications ranging from residential construction to heavy infrastructure projects.
Focus on Premium Steel Products
The company stated that higher-grade TMT products generally command premium positioning and are expected to strengthen its value-added product mix.
Rhetan TMT also said that BIS certification involves stringent testing of chemical composition, mechanical strength and ductility. It believes compliance with these standards differentiates certified manufacturers from unorganised and uncertified producers in the steel industry.
Infrastructure Growth Supports Demand
In its filing, the company highlighted India’s expanding infrastructure pipeline and rising steel demand as supportive factors for future growth. It noted that India is among the world’s largest steel producers, with domestic steel demand continuing to increase alongside government investments in roads, railways, metro systems, housing and urban infrastructure.
The company said these trends are expected to support sustained demand for high-quality construction steel, particularly certified high-strength TMT bars.
Management Outlook
Rhetan TMT stated that the certification strengthens its market position, expands its addressable market and supports its long-term strategy of capability-led growth. The company added that it remains focused on operational momentum, expanding its premium product offerings and enhancing shareholder value.
