Ashok Leyland has inaugurated a new bus manufacturing facility near Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The plant, located in Malavalli, spans 75 acres and is designed to produce diesel and electric buses. With an annual production capacity of 4,800 buses, the facility includes a learning center and a service training center for workforce development. Several government officials and company representatives attended the inauguration.

The plant incorporates various sustainability measures, including rooftop solar panels, LED lighting, battery-operated vehicles for in-plant logistics, positive water balance measures, and a zero-discharge system. These initiatives align with broader efforts to reduce environmental impact in manufacturing.

Andhra Pradesh’s Minister of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, and Human Resource Development, Shri Nara Lokesh, attended the ceremony and received the keys to a Switch electric double-decker bus from Ashok Leyland and the Hinduja Group. Other government representatives were also present, highlighting the collaboration between the company and the state.

Ashok Leyland’s leadership stated that the plant is expected to enhance local employment and contribute to industrial growth in the region. The company has also indicated that production is set to begin immediately, with the facility expected to operate at full capacity in response to existing demand.
