Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), a leading Defence Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru-based Centum Electronics Ltd to jointly develop advanced naval navigation systems for the Indian Navy.
The MoU was signed at GRSE Bhavan, Kolkata, by Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd), Director (Shipbuilding) of GRSE, and Shri Nikhil Mallavarapu, Joint Managing Director of Centum Electronics, in the presence of Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd), Chairman & Managing Director of GRSE, and Shri Apparao V Mallavarapu, Chairman & Managing Director of Centum Electronics.
The partnership aims to foster joint research and development (R&D) of high-tech navigation systems, leveraging both companies’ expertise in defence technology. The collaboration will focus on manufacturing, installation, integration, and modernization of components and sub-assemblies, as well as upgrading existing systems to meet modern naval requirements.
This agreement marks a key milestone in GRSE’s efforts to expand its technological capabilities and strengthen India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem. It aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision to promote indigenous R&D and self-reliance in defence production.
