Jindal Steel has successfully commissioned its first Continuous Galvanising Line (CGL 1) at its state-of-the-art Angul Integrated Steel Complex in Odisha. This marks a significant step forward in expanding the company’s coated steel product portfolio. The new line will produce galvanised and galvalume steel under the Panther Galvanised and Zinkalume brands, catering to a wide range of industries including appliances, automotive, infrastructure, and construction.
CGL 1 is capable of processing steel thicknesses ranging from 0.15 mm to 1.50 mm and widths between 700 mm and 1400 mm. The advanced setup ensures high precision and consistent quality for various industrial applications.
The Panther Galvanised range includes full hard, soft, and skin-passed galvanised steel, suitable for products such as air conditioners, white goods, electrical panels, ducting systems, coolers, vehicle bodies, silos, and storage boxes. These products also serve as ideal base material for pre-painted galvanised iron (PPGI).
The Zinkalume galvalume range features an aluminium-silicon-zinc alloy coating, providing excellent corrosion resistance and thermal durability. These products are particularly suited for use in refrigerator backs, solar structures, fuel tanks, and pre-painted galvalume (PPGL) applications.
Additionally, the line offers thinner hot-rolled galvanised coils (1.00 mm to 1.50 mm) for use in tube manufacturing, silos, tank farms, and pre-engineered buildings. It also supports the production of high-strength galvanised steel for automotive underbody components.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Naveen Jindal, Chairman of Jindal Steel, said, “The commissioning of our first galvanising line at the Angul Integrated Steel Complex is a proud milestone. It reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality, value-added steel products to meet diverse industry requirements. We are confident that Panther Galvanised and Zinkalume will set new benchmarks in the market.”
Looking ahead, Jindal Steel is on track to add an additional 6 MTPA of crude steel capacity at the Angul plant within this year. This expansion will take the total installed capacity to 12 MTPA by the end of 2025, establishing the facility as one of the largest single-location steel plants in India.
