ITI Limited has secured a significant sports infrastructure project in Himachal Pradesh, expanding its presence beyond traditional telecom and digital connectivity projects.

The company has received a work order worth ₹72.76 crore for the construction of an ice-hockey rink in Kaza, located in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. The project has been awarded by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Lahaul and Spiti.

Under the contract, ITI Limited will develop a full-fledged ice-hockey rink along with a 500 kW solar power backup system to ensure reliable operations in the high-altitude region. The project scope also includes the installation of CCTV surveillance systems, modern lighting infrastructure, and other supporting facilities designed to enhance safety and spectator experience.

The ice-hockey rink project is part of a broader initiative to create world-class sports infrastructure in remote and high-altitude regions. It is expected to complement ongoing efforts under the High-Altitude Sports Training Centre scheme, supporting the development of winter sports in the Spiti Valley.

Local authorities aim to leverage the new facility to increase youth participation in sports, strengthen athletic training opportunities, and promote sports-driven tourism in the Lahaul and Spiti district, which is situated at an elevation of approximately 12,000 feet.

ITI Limited already maintains a strong operational presence in Himachal Pradesh through its involvement in large-scale digital infrastructure projects, including the BharatNet Phase III programme. The company has been engaged in optical fibre cable deployment and network infrastructure development across multiple districts in the state.

Ice hockey, which began gaining traction in the Spiti region in 2019, has already produced notable results at national-level competitions. The upcoming facility is expected to further strengthen the region’s position as an emerging destination for winter sports in India.
