Bharti Airtel has launched the country’s first AI-powered, network-based spam detection solution. This innovative tool aims to effectively tackle the problem of spam calls and messages for Airtel customers. As a unique offering from a telecom service provider in India, the solution will notify users in real-time about suspected spam calls and SMS messages. Best of all, it’s free and will be automatically activated for all Airtel customers without the need for a service request or app download.
Airtel’s in-house developed AI solution uses a proprietary algorithm to identify and classify calls and SMS messages as “Suspected SPAM.” It analyzes real-time parameters like usage patterns and call frequency to accurately flag potential spam. Additionally, it warns customers about malicious links by scanning SMS against a centralized database of blacklisted URLs. The system also detects anomalies, such as frequent IMEI changes, indicative of fraud. These measures aim to provide customers with strong protection against spam and fraud threats.
Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and CEO of Bharti Airtel, said, “Spam has become a significant issue for our customers. Today, we launch the country’s first AI-powered spam-free network to protect them from unwanted communications.”
He explained that the solution has dual-layer protection, processing 1.5 billion messages and 2.5 billion calls daily in just 2 milliseconds. This system successfully identifies 100 million potential spam calls and 3 million spam SMS messages each day. “Ensuring our customers’ security is our top priority,” Vittal added.
