Ola Electric Mobility Limited on Monday announced the rollout of its first Shakti residential battery energy storage system (BESS) from its Gigafactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, marking a key milestone in scaling up its indigenous 4680 Bharat Cell platform.
With this launch, the company has expanded beyond electric vehicles into the residential energy storage segment. Ola Electric stated that Shakti has been fully designed, engineered, and manufactured domestically, reinforcing its focus on localisation, advanced manufacturing, and technology development.
Shakti is positioned as a portable, on-demand power solution for households, farms, and small businesses, aimed at addressing power reliability and energy management requirements across India.
As per pricing displayed on Ola Electric’s official product and booking pages, three Shakti variants are currently listed with the following prices:
- The 1.5 kWh (1 kW / 1.5 kWh) entry-level variant is priced at ₹39,999.
- The 5.2 kWh (3 kW / 5.2 kWh) mid-range configuration is listed at ₹1,49,999.
- The 9.1 kWh (6 kW / 9.1 kWh) higher-capacity variant is priced at ₹1,99,999.
The company has opened bookings for the product on its website with a refundable reservation amount of ₹999, while delivery timelines and installation details are expected to be announced separately.
Features and Capabilities
Shakti is available in configurations ranging from 1.5 kWh to 9.1 kWh and is designed to support appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cookers, farm pumps, and communication equipment. Ola Electric stated that the system offers automotive-grade safety, zero running and maintenance costs, and instant changeover during power outages.
The energy storage system operates across a 200V–240V input voltage range to protect appliances from voltage fluctuations and features IP67-rated batteries designed to withstand dust, water, and monsoon conditions.
According to the company, Shakti also includes smart energy management features that allow users to monitor battery status, analyse usage patterns, and optimise energy consumption through automated controls and real-time insights. Charging times can be as low as two hours, with backup support of up to 1.5 hours at full load, depending on the configuration.
Ola Electric said the launch of Shakti aligns with its broader strategy to promote clean, decentralised, and reliable energy solutions while strengthening India’s domestic battery manufacturing ecosystem.
