Uno Minda Limited has announced a series of strategic capacity expansion and plant consolidation initiatives across multiple business divisions, with a combined proposed investment of approximately ₹1,415 crore.
The automotive components manufacturer said the projects are aimed at strengthening its manufacturing footprint, increasing production capacity and addressing growing demand from leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
The expansion programme covers key business areas including two-wheeler alloy wheels, aluminium casting, moulding, and interior, exterior parts and sealing systems.
₹510 Crore Greenfield Aluminium Casting Facility in Hosur
As part of the expansion plan, Uno Minda’s Aluminium Casting Division will establish a new greenfield manufacturing facility at Thally Road, Hosur, on an available land parcel near its existing operations.
The division supplies casting components for two-wheelers, four-wheelers and commercial vehicles, including applications for both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicles (EVs). The company said demand from OEMs, particularly in South India, has continued to support the need for additional capacity.
The new facility is expected to involve an additional capital expenditure of ₹510 crore. Aluminium casting capacity at the Hosur location is planned to increase from approximately 13,000 metric tonnes to 30,000 metric tonnes at peak capacity.
The project will be implemented in phases over the next three years. Phase 1 is expected to commence production by Q4 FY28, while the existing Hosur operations are planned to be consolidated and relocated to the new facility by Q1 FY29.
The new plant will feature a lean manufacturing layout intended to improve material flow and productivity. Its product portfolio is expected to include structural and general-application components, EV and powertrain applications, as well as around 1.0 million high-pressure die-cast (HPDC) two-wheeler alloy wheels.
₹155 Crore Two-Wheeler Alloy Wheel Expansion at Kharkhoda
Uno Minda’s Board of Directors has also approved an expansion-cum-relocation project for its two-wheeler alloy wheel business at Kharkhoda, Haryana.
The project will create 3.3 million units of additional two-wheeler alloy wheel capacity at the Kharkhoda facility. It also involves the strategic relocation of 2.0 million units of existing capacity from Supa, Maharashtra, to Kharkhoda.
The initiative carries an estimated additional capital expenditure of ₹155 crore and will be implemented in phases over the next two years. Phase 1 is expected to commence production by Q4 FY28.
According to the company, the Kharkhoda expansion is intended to align manufacturing capacity with changing customer and geographic demand. The project is also expected to strengthen Uno Minda’s manufacturing presence in North India for two-wheeler alloy wheels.
Focus on Capacity and Manufacturing Footprint
The announced investments form part of Uno Minda’s broader strategy to expand manufacturing capabilities across its automotive component businesses. The company said the projects are intended to support committed volumes, emerging business opportunities and increasing requirements from OEM customers.
