India : ABB India has debuted the latest iteration of its compact drive, the ACH180, designed specifically for HVACR (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration) equipment. This innovative addition to ABB’s HVACR drive lineup empowers precise control over high-efficiency motors, all within a compact form factor. This not only saves space but also reduces capital expenditure and streamlines the commissioning process.

  • Given the current climate impact, there is an increasing demand for efficient heating and cooling systems in India. It is essential for these systems to prioritize enhancing comfort and safety while also promoting energy savings. This aligns with the nation’s ambitious goals to reduce emissions.
  • The new ACH180 drive from ABB is tailored for commercial buildings, including data centers, hotels, and shopping malls. Its design enables operators to adjust motor speed based on HVACR process requirements, eliminating the need to run them at full speed and then reduce output using mechanical controls such as throttles or dampers. This significant improvement reduces energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. Additionally, the drive includes a built-in filter to reduce high-frequency emissions, eliminating the necessity to purchase and install extra external filters for industrial or domestic environments.
  • The ACH180 drive offers support for controlling different motor types, including permanent magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance motors like the IE5 EC Titanium by ABB, permanent magnet motors, and conventional induction motors. Moreover, it comes with onboard communication protocols such as BACnet MS/TP and Modbus RTU, ensuring compatibility with various building automation systems (BAS) or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) controllers.
  • The ACH180 is well-suited for diverse HVACR applications, covering air handlers, fan arrays, heat pumps, compressors, and pumps, thus reducing the overall cost and complexity associated with drive usage. Engineered to withstand harsh conditions, including up to 60°C ambient temperature with derating, the ACH180 stands out as a reliable choice for customers prioritizing high reliability. Additionally, it offers features such as the fireman’s override, enabling fire services to take control of installed drives managing fans to ensure the maintenance of escape routes. This new range of drives upholds stringent safety standards for both personnel and occupants.

The drive will be available starting February 15, 2024, and its launch is scheduled at ACREX 2024, India’s premier exhibition focusing on air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and intelligent buildings. This esteemed exhibition runs from February 15 to February 17, 2024, showcasing the latest innovations and advancements in the industry.
