(VIPL) for a total consideration of ₹4,000 crore. VIPL is a 2×300 MW coal-based power plant located in Butibori, Nagpur district, Maharashtra.

The acquisition follows the approval of Adani Power’s resolution plan by the Mumbai Bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) on June 18, 2025. VIPL was undergoing proceedings under the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) as per the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. The resolution plan was implemented on July 7, 2025, marking the formal completion of the acquisition.

With this transaction, Adani Power’s total operational capacity rises to 18,150 MW. The company is currently focused on expanding its power generation capacity further through a combination of brownfield and greenfield projects. This includes the construction of six 1,600 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plants (USCTPPs) at existing sites in Singrauli-Mahan (Madhya Pradesh), Raipur, Raigarh, Korba (Chhattisgarh), and Kawai (Rajasthan). Additionally, a greenfield 1,600 MW USCTPP is being developed in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh.

The company is also reviving a 1,320 MW supercritical thermal power project at Korba, acquired earlier. With these projects, Adani Power aims to increase its total generation capacity to 30,670 MW by FY 2029–30, further cementing its position as the country’s largest private base-load power generator.

Commenting on the development, SB Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power Ltd., said, “The acquisition of VIPL is a key milestone in Adani Power’s strategy to unlock value through the turnaround of stressed assets.
