Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) marked a significant milestone on October 3, 2024, by signing an agreement with M/s Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH & Co. KG from Germany for the construction of the fifth Multi-Purpose Vessel (MPV), with a capacity of 7,500 DWT. This contract follows an earlier ‘Option Agreement’ for four additional MPVs, bringing the total to eight vessels with an estimated value of $108 million.
Each MPV will be 120 meters long, 17 meters wide, and can carry 7,500 metric tonnes of cargo. Designed to accommodate bulk, general, and project cargoes, these vessels will also be capable of transporting large windmill blades on deck.
The agreement was signed by GRSE’s Director (Shipbuilding), Cdr Shantanu Bose (IN Retd), and Mr. Jonas Meinhardt, Managing Director of M/s Carsten Rehder, in the presence of GRSE officials, including Director (Finance) Shri RK Dash and Director (Personnel) DIG Subrato Ghosh (ICG Retd).
