VA Tech WABAG Limited announced that it has secured a significant Design, Build and Operate (DBO) order funded by the Asian Development Bank from the Melamchi Water Supply Development Board, Government of Nepal.
The project covers the development of the Sundarijal Water Treatment Plant with a capacity of 255 million litres per day. The plant will be built next to the existing Melamchi facility and will treat water drawn from the Melamchi, Yangri and Larke rivers. The new plant is designed to meet Nepal’s National Drinking Water Quality Standards and aims to support long-term water security in the Kathmandu Valley.
The Engineering, Procurement and Construction phase will be completed over 36 months. After commissioning, WABAG will operate and maintain the facility for five years, highlighting its lifecycle capabilities in water treatment infrastructure.
The company stated that the order is classified as a “Large” contract, valued between USD 30 million and 75 million. The project has been awarded by an international entity, and there is no related-party involvement in the transaction.
