  •  In a momentous occasion symbolizing a significant step towards India’s energy security and socio-economic progress, the Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Phase-1 of the NLC India Talabira Thermal Power Project, which will generate 2,400 MW of power, in Sambalpur, Odisha. This ceremony, held on February 3, 2024, was graced by the esteemed presence of various dignitaries, including Shri Raghubar Das, the Governor of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Minister of Odisha, as well as several Union Ministers such as Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Shri Bishweswar Tudu, among others.
  • During his address following the laying of the foundation stone, the Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated, “The government remains committed to fulfilling its promises. We don’t merely lay the foundation stone of projects; we ensure their completion and inauguration. This thermal power project will guarantee uninterrupted electricity supply for Odisha and create employment opportunities for the youth.”
  • The NLC India Talabira Thermal Power Project, spearheaded by NLC India Ltd., a Navratna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Coal, is poised to transform the energy sector of the nation. With an estimated investment surpassing Rs 27,000 Crore, this coal-based Ultra Super Critical Pit Head Thermal Power Project represents a significant stride towards bolstering energy security and propelling the nation’s growth trajectory.
  • The project, initially designed to have a capacity of 2,400 MW in its first phase and scheduled for an additional 800 MW in the second phase with an investment exceeding Rs 8,000 Crore, is positioned to emerge as the largest Greenfield Pithead Thermal Power Station in the nation. Following recent trends, the project will harness the benefits of its pit-head location by implementing an environmentally friendly conveyor system for coal transportation from the neighboring operational mines of Talabira II and III belonging to NLC India Ltd. This approach ensures both cost-effectiveness and sustainability.
