Heritage Foods Limited has initiated a civil defamation lawsuit before the Delhi High Court against Sakshi Media House and several associated parties, alleging publication and circulation of false and defamatory content that harmed the company’s reputation and business credibility.
The company informed stock exchanges that the legal action was filed under Regulation 30 of SEBI’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements. The dispute relates to media reports and social media content allegedly linking Heritage Foods to entities connected with an ongoing controversy involving adulterated ghee supplies, claims the company has strongly denied.
Delhi High Court Grants Interim Relief
The Delhi High Court, through an order dated February 19, 2026, granted interim relief in favour of Heritage Foods after observing a prima facie case and potential reputational harm. The court restrained defendants from publishing or republishing any allegedly false, misleading, or defamatory content concerning the company across digital and print platforms.
The court further directed removal of disputed articles, reports, interviews, and related content within 24 hours. Online platforms were also instructed to disable access to such material if the original publishers failed to comply within the stipulated timeline.
₹100 Crore Damages Claim
Heritage Foods has sought damages amounting to ₹100 crore, citing severe reputational damage and potential business disruption caused by the publications. The company stated that it initiated legal proceedings to safeguard stakeholder interests and maintain public trust.
According to court submissions, the company argued that certain reports incorrectly associated it with another dairy entity accused in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) ghee controversy. Heritage Foods clarified that it has no business relationship with the accused entity and that the allegations were based on mistaken identity between two separate companies.
Allegations and Company’s Position
Court documents noted that disputed articles published on February 14, 2026 allegedly claimed links between Heritage Foods and an accused company involved in the TTD investigation. The company maintained that it has business dealings only with a different firm bearing a similar name and has never been named in the FIR or chargesheets related to the investigation.
Heritage Foods also stated that widespread dissemination of the reports across television broadcasts and digital platforms amplified reputational damage due to extensive online reach.
Compliance and Next Hearing
The Delhi High Court has issued summons to defendants and scheduled further proceedings, with the matter listed for hearing later in 2026. Meanwhile, compliance affidavits regarding removal of disputed content have been directed to be filed within a week of the order.
The company said it remains committed to protecting its reputation and ensuring accurate dissemination of information while pursuing all available legal remedies.
