Jindal Steel Limited has announced the completion of its 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) expansion at its Angul Integrated Steel Complex in Odisha, significantly enhancing its production capabilities. The development takes the total crude steel capacity at the Angul facility to 12 MTPA, positioning it among the largest single-location integrated steel plants in India.

The expansion milestone was achieved through the commissioning of the third Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF-3) with a capacity of 3 MTPA, along with the operationalisation of BOF-2 and other associated facilities. These include coke ovens, a cold rolling mill (CRM) complex, and additional upstream and downstream infrastructure designed to ensure seamless production integration and scalability.

Total Steel Capacity Increases to 15.6 MTPA

Following this expansion, Jindal Steel’s overall crude steel capacity has increased to 15.6 MTPA. This includes 12 MTPA at the Angul plant and 3.6 MTPA at its Raigarh facility in Chhattisgarh. The company has completed the expansion within its planned timeline, reinforcing execution capabilities in large-scale industrial projects.

Strategic Impact on Growth and Profitability

The company stated that the expanded capacity is expected to drive higher production volumes and improve capacity utilisation levels. This, in turn, is likely to support revenue growth while enabling operating leverage benefits.
