NLC India Commissions 660 MW Unit-3 at Ghatampur Thermal Power Project, Installed Capacity Rises to 8,405 MW

NLC India Limited has announced the commencement of commercial operations of Unit-3, with a generation capacity of 660 MW, at the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project in Uttar Pradesh. The company disclosed the development through a regulatory filing submitted to the stock exchanges under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.

According to the filing, Unit-3 of the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project achieved Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) with effect from 00:00 hours on June 13, 2026. The unit is operated by Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), a joint venture between NLC India Limited, which holds a 51% stake, and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL), which owns the remaining 49%.

With the declaration of commercial operations for Unit-3, the Ghatampur Thermal Power Station, comprising three units of 660 MW each with a total installed capacity of 1,980 MW, has now become fully commissioned and operational.

NLC India stated that the commissioning of the final unit is expected to enhance reliable and sustainable power supply to Uttar Pradesh while supporting the country’s increasing electricity demand. The company added that the milestone reinforces its commitment to strengthening India’s power generation infrastructure.

Following the commercialisation of the 660 MW unit, NLC India’s overall installed power generation capacity has increased from 7,745 MW to 8,405 MW, marking a significant expansion in its operational portfolio.

The Ghatampur Thermal Power Project is one of the major thermal power initiatives aimed at improving power availability in northern India and supporting long-term energy security requirements.
