Torrent Power Limited, part of the Torrent Group, has secured a letter of award from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for a long-term supply of 2,000 MW of energy storage capacity from its InSTS Connected Pumped Hydro Storage Plant. This includes an additional 500 MW allocation on top of a previously issued 1,500 MW Letter of Intent from September 17, 2024.
MSEDCL will purchase this capacity for 40 years, with the energy supplied from Torrent Power’s upcoming hydro storage plant in Maharashtra. Under the Energy Storage Facility Agreement, the company will provide a 2,000 MW capacity capable of discharging for 8 hours daily, with charging energy supplied by MSEDCL.
In response to the rising need for energy storage amid increasing solar and wind generation, Torrent Power is committed to offering reliable renewable energy solutions. The company plans to invest ₹25,000 to ₹35,000 crores in developing 5 to 8 GW of pumped storage capacity across various states and is also exploring green hydrogen and green ammonia production projects. Torrent Power aims to contribute significantly to India’s renewable energy targets.
