Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today inaugurated GAIL (India) Limited’s Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) plant in Ranchi, Jharkhand, via virtual mode during a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, to celebrate Swachh Bharat Diwas 2024.

This CBG facility is designed to convert the organic fraction of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) into CBG, with a feedstock processing capacity of 150 TPD and a production capacity of 5 Tonnes Per Day (TPD), representing a total investment of ₹26 crore.

GAIL’s CBG Plant aims to significantly advance environmental and Sustainable Development goals, reducing approximately 4,950 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. It is expected to replace around 2,171,052 Standard Cubic Meters (SCM) of natural gas each year, generating foreign exchange savings of about USD 840,093, enhancing the nation’s energy security.

Economically, the plant will create 35 direct and 105 indirect jobs, promoting local employment. An event in Ranchi featured key dignitaries, including Shri Sanjay Seth, who praised GAIL’s commitment to green initiatives and the Government of India’s efforts for a cleaner environment. The plant represents a major step in waste management and renewable energy in the region.
