In a significant step towards the government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, the Ministry of Defence and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) have signed a contract for the procurement of 12 Su-30MKI aircraft along with related equipment on 12.12.2024. The deal, valued at approximately ₹13,500 crore, inclusive of taxes and duties, marks a major milestone in India’s defence capabilities.

The aircraft will feature 62.6% indigenous content, a result of the increased indigenisation of several components that will be manufactured by the Indian defence industry. These aircraft will be produced at HAL’s Nasik division. The acquisition of these aircraft will significantly enhance the operational capability of the Indian Air Force and strengthen the country’s defence preparedness.
