Securities Transaction Tax (STT) collections increased 52.87% year-on-year to ₹40,214.36 crore during the period from April 1, 2026 to September 17, 2026, according to the latest direct tax collection data.
India’s financial year runs from April 1 to March 31, meaning the latest figure represents STT collections accumulated during the first part of FY 2026-27.
STT Collections Increase
STT collections stood at ₹26,305.72 crore during the corresponding period of FY 2025-26, covering April 1, 2025 to September 17, 2025. Collections therefore increased by ₹13,908.64 crore over the comparable period.
The latest data shows that STT accounted for a larger amount of direct tax collections compared with the same period a year earlier. The entire STT amount of ₹40,214.36 crore was reported as net collection, as the data shows zero refunds under the STT category for both periods.
Securities Transaction Tax and Market Transactions
STT is a tax levied on specified transactions in securities in India. The latest collection figures therefore provide a measure of tax receipts generated from taxable securities transactions during the period.
The 52.87% year-on-year increase in STT collections was higher than the overall growth in net direct tax collections during the same period.
Overall Direct Tax Collections
Total gross direct tax collections stood at ₹14,32,437.43 crore as of September 17, 2026, compared with ₹12,43,582.45 crore during the corresponding period of FY 2025-26.
After refunds, net direct tax collections increased to ₹12,12,410.71 crore, compared with ₹10,73,272.17 crore a year earlier. This represented a 12.96% year-on-year increase.
Corporate tax net collections rose to ₹5,55,967.80 crore, while non-corporate tax net collections reached ₹6,16,228.75 crore during the period.
Advance Tax Collections
Advance tax collections also increased during the period. Total advance tax collections reached ₹5,21,940.72 crore as of September 17, 2026, compared with ₹4,49,256.41 crore in the corresponding period of FY 2025-26.
This represented a 16.18% year-on-year increase. Corporate advance tax collections grew 18.09% to ₹4,16,083.59 crore, while non-corporate advance tax collections increased 9.24% to ₹1,05,856.69 crore.
STT Collection Growth in FY 2026-27
The latest figures show that Securities Transaction Tax collections reached ₹40,214.36 crore between April 1 and September 17, 2026, marking a 52.87% increase from ₹26,305.72 crore collected during the comparable period of the previous financial year.
