Sarvam has partnered with the Government of Maharashtra to deploy Indus, its sovereign AI workspace, across state government departments. Around 2,500 government officials are expected to use the platform as part of their daily administrative work.
Indus AI Workspace to Support Government Officials
Under the partnership, Maharashtra has approved the deployment of Sarvam’s Indus AI workspace across its departments. The platform is designed to assist officials with research, document processing, drafting and other routine administrative tasks.
Officials will be able to use Indus for deep research across government policies and precedents, prepare first drafts of notes and replies, translate documents and summarise lengthy scheme and policy documents.
The platform can also analyse data to identify patterns and exceptions and convert scanned records into searchable text. Sarvam stated that Indus supports work across 22 languages, including Marathi.
AI Infrastructure to Remain Within India
According to Sarvam, the Indus deployment will operate on secure and audited infrastructure located entirely within India. Government data will remain within the country and be hosted on systems that can be inspected by the state.
The arrangement is aimed at enabling the use of AI tools in government workflows while retaining control over the infrastructure and data environment.
Deployment Across the Administration
The initiative is planned at the broader administration level rather than as a limited pilot within a single department. Around 2,500 officials across Maharashtra are expected to use Indus for routine government work.
The platform is intended to function as an AI assistant for tasks such as researching policy questions, preparing draft responses, processing scanned Marathi documents and handling information contained in government records.
Sarvam and Maharashtra Plan Wider AI Collaboration
The Indus rollout is described as the first stage of a broader programme between Sarvam and the Maharashtra government.
The planned collaboration also covers voice agents for citizen outreach and speech technologies for public services. Further initiatives are expected to be developed as part of the wider partnership.
