Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) has secured a major deal with the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) to supply and install Double-Lane Class 70 modular steel and Bailey bridges.

The MoU, signed by Dr. Krishan Kumar, IAS, MD of NHIDCL, and Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd.), CMD of GRSE, aims to enhance connectivity in key border areas. GRSE’s innovative bridges, in line with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, offer a 7.5-meter-wide carriageway and support vehicles up to 100/70 MT. They feature high-tensile steel for durability and modular design for rapid deployment.

In August 2022, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) achieved a unique milestone by becoming the only Indian organization to receive the Green Channel Certification for Portable Steel Bridges (Bailey Type) from the Indian Army.

GRSE’s Portable Steel Bridge Division has set new standards through extensive R&D, developing advanced portable bridge designs. To date, GRSE has supplied over 5,700 portable steel bridges to key organizations including the Indian Army, Border Roads Organisation, NHIDCL, State Public Works Departments, and the Central Government. Initially designed for disaster management, these bridges have also gained international acclaim, with exports to countries such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka.
