Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL), a leading FMCG company in emerging markets, has inaugurated its first integrated greenfield manufacturing facility in Chengalpattu District, near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The plant was officially opened by the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru MK Stalin, alongside Nadir Godrej, Chairperson of Godrej Industries Group, and Sudhir Sitapati, MD & CEO of GCPL.
Marking the commencement of operations, Chief Minister Thiru MK Stalin activated the production line, initiating the first production run. This milestone moment saw the rollout of the inaugural Cinthol Original soap bar, symbolizing the plant’s launch.
GCPL had laid the foundation for this state-of-the-art facility in 2024, committing an investment of approximately INR 515 crore over the next five years. This represents the company’s largest single investment aimed at expanding its manufacturing capacity. Spread across 27 acres, the plant was completed in a record 13 months and has generated over 1,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, benefiting both the local community and the company’s operations.
Aligned with GCPL’s commitment to sustainability, the facility has been designed with eco-friendly practices in accordance with the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) guidelines.
