In a landmark event, Union Railways Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw today launched India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset at BEML’s Bangalore facility. This achievement highlights BEML’s role as a leading rail and metro manufacturer with its indigenously designed trainset. Additionally, Shri Vaishnaw inaugurated a new 9.2-acre hangar facility near the BEML complex, aimed at expanding the export of rolling stock and enhancing BEML’s global presence.
The event was attended by distinguished guests, including Shri V. Somanna, Minister of State for Railways; Shri Satish Kumar, Chairman & CEO of the Railway Board; Shri Shantanu Roy, Chairman & Managing Director of BEML; and senior officials from Indian Railways and Integral Coach Factory (ICF).
The Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset features a range of advanced and modern amenities designed to enhance passenger experience and safety. Constructed from Austenitic stainless steel, the trainset includes crashworthy safety features and fire safety measures compliant with EN 45545, Hazard Level: 03. The interiors are designed with premium GFRP panels, while the aerodynamic exterior adds to its sleek appearance. The trainset offers a modular pantry, automatic exterior passenger doors, and sensor-based intercommunication doors.
For added convenience, it includes a remotely operated fire barrier door, an ergonomically designed, odor-free toilet system, and a dedicated toilet for the driving crew. Special berths and toilets are available for differently-abled passengers, and the 1st AC car features a shower with hot water. Integrated reading lights with USB charging, modern passenger amenities, public announcement and visual information systems, and a spacious luggage room complete the high-end features of this state-of-the-art trainset.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset represents a major leap in India’s rail technology, offering European-standard comfort. The train features top-tier amenities, including USB charging, advanced safety systems, and specialized facilities for differently-abled passengers, setting new benchmarks for long-distance rail travel in India.
