VA TECH WABAG has secured a Design Build and Operate (DBO) order from Delhi Jal Board (DJB) for a wastewater treatment project in Delhi, strengthening its municipal water infrastructure portfolio in India. The company disclosed the development through a stock exchange filing on May 22, 2026.
According to the company, the order falls under its “medium” category, indicating a project value between ₹100 crore and ₹250 crore. The contract includes the design, engineering, construction and commissioning of a 17 MGD wastewater treatment plant at Mitraon in Delhi, along with supporting infrastructure and long-term operations.
The project scope includes the development of a sludge dewatering facility, pumping stations and associated piping works. Following construction activities, WABAG will also undertake operation and maintenance responsibilities for a period of 15 years.
The wastewater treatment plant is expected to be completed within 21 months. The company stated that the project is designed to support Delhi’s long-term water sustainability objectives and improve urban sanitation infrastructure.
WABAG said the facility will incorporate modern wastewater treatment technologies with a focus on environmental sustainability. Planned features include odour control systems, green landscaping measures and energy-efficient operations intended to support long-term performance and operational reliability.
The company noted that the project aligns with broader efforts aimed at strengthening wastewater management systems and improving environmental resilience in urban regions.
Commenting on the development, company representatives stated that the repeat order from Delhi Jal Board reflects continued collaboration between the entities and reinforces WABAG’s presence in India’s wastewater treatment sector.
The order has been awarded by a domestic entity and the company clarified that it does not involve related party transactions.
