Tata Communications and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) have announced a collaboration to accelerate software-defined vehicle (SDV) deployment in India, with the newly launched Sierra.ev set to feature built-in 5G cellular connectivity. The partnership aims to support connected vehicle services and enable a wider range of digital experiences for customers.
Under the collaboration, Tata Communications’ MOVE Connected Vehicle Platform will be integrated with the Sierra.ev’s SDV platform, N-JO. The integration is designed to provide seamless connectivity and a digital-first in-vehicle experience while creating a scalable technology foundation for future software-enabled applications.
The companies said the technology will support features such as in-vehicle connectivity, faster over-the-air updates and connected services. The platform is also intended to enable vehicles to remain adaptable as new applications and digital services are introduced over their lifecycle.
For Sierra.ev customers, the connected architecture is expected to support enhanced safety and in-vehicle experiences. Tata Communications said its MOVE platform will facilitate secure connectivity, seamless content access and an onboarding experience designed to simplify the use of connected services. Customers will also have the option to purchase additional subscription-based service packs.
The connected vehicle platform is expected to support safety-critical functions such as emergency calls, remote support and remote vehicle diagnostics in real time. The companies said the approach is aimed at helping vehicles remain continuously connected while enabling manufacturers to introduce new features and services over time.
Vivek Manglik, Executive Vice President – Interaction Fabric at Tata Communications, said the collaboration reflects a shared focus on developing connected vehicle ecosystems and strengthening the digital infrastructure required for future mobility services. He added that the technology is intended to support innovation, scalability and a more personalised mobility experience.
Sven Patuschka, Chief Technology Officer at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., said software-defined vehicles and digital connectivity are becoming increasingly important to customer experiences. According to him, the collaboration with Tata Communications provides the digital backbone required for seamless connectivity, continuous innovation and enhanced in-vehicle services.
The partnership marks another step in the development of connected and software-defined vehicles in India, with the Sierra.ev positioned to use 5G connectivity and digital infrastructure to support services throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle.
