Tembo Global Industries Ltd. has announced that its subsidiary, Tembo Classic Engineering Pvt. Ltd., has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Belgium-based Lachaussee SA to establish a complete production line for two types of ammunition in India.
The strategic partnership, valued at approximately €50 million, is aimed at setting up an advanced manufacturing facility with an estimated production capacity of 100 million rounds of ammunition annually. Deliveries for the project are scheduled for 2028 and 2029, according to the company.
Under the proposed arrangement, Tembo Classic Engineering will work with Lachaussee SA to establish a complete production line for the manufacture of two ammunition types. The facility is expected to strengthen Tembo Global Industries’ capabilities in defence manufacturing, engineering and project execution.
The initiative also aligns with the Make in India programme and the broader push to expand domestic defence manufacturing capabilities. By establishing production infrastructure within the country, the partnership is expected to contribute to the development of India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.
Commenting on the development, Sanjay J. Patel, Managing Director, Tembo Global Industries Ltd., said the MoU represents an important milestone in the company’s expansion into the defence manufacturing sector.
He added that the partnership combines the engineering and manufacturing capabilities of both companies to establish a complete ammunition production line in India. The company also expects the collaboration to strengthen its presence in the defence manufacturing ecosystem and create a foundation for further growth in the sector.
Lachaussee SA’s Role
Lachaussee SA, headquartered in Milmort, Belgium, has a history dating back to 1830 and specialises in engineering and manufacturing high-precision machinery and complete production lines for ammunition, primers, detonators and other pyrotechnic components.
The company provides solutions covering equipment design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and technology transfer for customers across international markets.
Tembo Global Industries’ Defence Manufacturing Expansion
The MoU marks another step in Tembo Global Industries’ expansion into defence manufacturing. The proposed ammunition production facility is expected to add to the company’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities while supporting its participation in India’s growing domestic defence production ecosystem.
