Waaree Energies Ltd. has inaugurated Bharat’s largest 5.4 GW solar cell gigafactory in Chikhli, Gujarat, marking a major milestone in India’s renewable energy sector. The grand event was attended by Hon’ble Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Shri Pralhad Joshi, and Union Minister of Jal Shakti Shri C.R. Patil, along with key state ministers and dignitaries. Spanning 150 acres, with a built-up area of 101 acres.
Speaking at the event, Shri Pralhad Joshi highlighted Gujarat’s leadership in India’s renewable energy transition, stating that the state continues to set national benchmarks. He emphasized that this world-class solar cell manufacturing facility strengthens the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, positioning India as a global hub for clean energy technologies. The gigafactory not only advances indigenous manufacturing but also reinforces the country’s growing influence in the global renewable energy landscape.
Hitesh Doshi, Chairman & Managing Director of Waaree Energies Ltd., described the facility as more than just an infrastructure project it symbolizes India’s technological ambition, economic self-reliance, and leadership in the clean energy revolution. He emphasized that every solar cell manufactured here represents a step toward energy independence and innovation, reinforcing India’s transformation from an energy consumer to a global clean energy leader. This launch signifies a bold declaration of India’s intent to lead and reshape the future of energy.
Equipped with advanced high-efficiency solar cell technology, the Chikhli facility embodies Waaree’s focus on research, innovation, and sustainability. In addition to supporting India’s decarbonization goals, it is also a significant driver of economic growth, creating over 9,500 direct jobs and approximately 30,000 indirect employment opportunities.
