Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced a strategic collaboration with NVIDIA to develop what is proposed to be India’s largest gigawatt-scale artificial intelligence (AI) factory, aimed at strengthening the country’s position as a global hub for AI infrastructure and advanced computing. The announcement was made at the India AI Summit as part of initiatives aligned with the Government of India’s IndiaAI Mission.
The proposed venture will combine L&T’s engineering, procurement, and construction expertise with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing technologies, including GPUs, CPUs, networking solutions, and enterprise AI software platforms. The project is designed to enable enterprises and global technology players to deploy production-grade AI workloads from India while ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
The AI factory aims to establish sovereign AI infrastructure that allows critical data, models, and AI applications to be built, trained, and deployed within India while remaining interoperable with global ecosystems. The initiative targets enterprises, policymakers, hyperscalers, and cloud providers seeking large-scale AI capacity anchored in India’s digital and industrial transformation.
As part of the rollout, L&T plans to scale NVIDIA GPU cluster deployment at its Chennai data center to up to 30 MW capacity within a 300-acre gigawatt-scalable campus. Additionally, a new 40 MW data center in Mumbai, currently under execution, will support next-generation AI workloads requiring high-density computing infrastructure.
The AI factory model is expected to deliver enterprise-grade AI services across sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, financial services, healthcare, and public services. The platform is intended to accelerate the shift from experimental AI deployments to production-scale implementations, offering standardized performance, security, and faster time-to-value for industrial applications.
The initiative will also enable L&T and its group companies to deploy AI agents on sovereign cloud environments, supporting industrial automation frameworks and digital transformation programs across business verticals.
Company leadership stated that Indian enterprises are increasingly moving from pilot AI projects to large-scale deployment, requiring secure and scalable infrastructure to unlock economic impact. NVIDIA leadership highlighted that AI infrastructure development represents one of the largest technology buildouts globally and positions India as a key digital infrastructure hub.
The venture seeks to create national-scale AI factories optimized for accelerated computing, supporting both domestic demand and global AI workloads.
