Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated SJVN Limited’s 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project at Pachpadra in Rajasthan, marking the commissioning of one of the country’s largest domestically developed solar power projects under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) category.

The project has been developed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), the renewable energy arm of SJVN, with an investment of approximately ₹5,492 crore. Spread across nearly 5,000 acres in Bikaner district, the solar project has been built using domestically manufactured equipment, supporting India’s renewable energy capacity and local manufacturing ecosystem.

According to the company, the plant is expected to generate around 2,454.84 million units (MU) of electricity during its first year of operation and approximately 56,482.14 MU over its estimated operational life of 25 years. The generated power will be supplied to Rajasthan (500 MW), Uttarakhand (200 MW), and Jammu & Kashmir (300 MW).

SJVN said the project is expected to reduce nearly 2.79 billion kilograms of carbon emissions over its operational life, contributing to India’s clean energy and sustainability objectives.

The company stated that the project incorporates around 24.22 lakh domestically manufactured DCR solar modules and nearly 175 crore indigenous solar cells, aligning with the government’s focus on domestic manufacturing under the Make in India initiative.

Beyond renewable energy generation, the project is expected to support regional economic development. During the construction and commissioning phases, it generated more than 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The project also contributed to the development of supporting infrastructure, including roads, transmission systems, and associated facilities in the Bikaner region.

SJVN currently has an installed capacity of 4,196.5 MW and operates transmission lines spanning 123 kilometres. The commissioning of the 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project further expands the company’s renewable energy portfolio.
