VA Tech WABAG Limited announced that a consortium led by the company has secured a “Large” international order for the proposed Ajman Sewage Biorefinery Plant – Phase 3 in the United Arab Emirates. The contract has been awarded by Ajman Sewerage (Private) Company Limited, with WABAG acting as the consortium leader.
According to the company’s stock exchange filing, the project involves the design, engineering, procurement, and construction of a 60 million litres per day (MLD) sewage treatment plant. The scope of work also includes inlet facilities, primary and secondary treatment systems, and comprehensive sludge management infrastructure comprising digesters, gas holders, scrubbers, and power generation systems.
The project will additionally feature odor control systems and disc filtration units aimed at ensuring compliance with the required treated effluent quality standards. The plant will utilize advanced mechanical and biological treatment technologies based on the Activated Sludge Process (ASP), supported by tertiary treatment through disc filtration systems.
WABAG stated that the project is expected to be completed within 24 months from commencement.
Under the company’s order classification framework, the contract has been categorized as a “Large” international order, indicating a value ranging between USD 30 million and USD 75 million.
The company noted that the order represents its strategic entry into the UAE market and further strengthens its footprint across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. WABAG believes the project enhances its credentials in pursuing larger and more complex water infrastructure opportunities throughout the Middle East.
Commenting on the development, Rohan Mittal, Head – Strategy and Business Growth – GCC, said that the project marks an important milestone in WABAG’s Middle East growth journey. He added that the contract strengthens the company’s ability to compete and succeed in one of the world’s strategically significant water infrastructure markets, supported by the UAE’s focus on water security, sustainability, and infrastructure resilience.
The company clarified that the contract has been awarded by an international entity and does not involve any related party transactions. WABAG also confirmed that neither the promoter group nor group companies have any interest in the awarding entity.
The latest order win is expected to support WABAG’s efforts to expand its presence in the Middle East’s wastewater treatment sector, a region increasingly investing in sustainable water management and resource recovery solutions.
